Blackboard maintenance and upgrade schedule

Posted on: 13 Jan 2017

Blackboard is typically available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but maintenance and changes may require downtime. The schedule below is provided to help users plan work on Blackboard.

We will communicate any anticipated downtime as far in advance as possible, using all staff/student emails, Blackboard announcements and any appropriate Office 365 channels.

Status and additional information during any downtime will be available at http://status.ulster.ac.uk.

Maintenance

We will reserve two weekend time slots for applying minor updates to Blackboard or to associated digital learning applications (Turnitin for example):

  • Saturday mornings, 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Sunday mornings, 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.

These time slots will not be used often and we will communicate the need for any downtime in advance.

Upgrades

More substantial upgrades (such as to a newer version of Blackboard) may require longer periods of downtime. These will be scheduled twice a year, in the period following Semester 1 exam periods and the period following exam boards in semester two.

For academic year 2018-19, that will be

  • Week commencing 21st January, 2019
  • Week commencing 24th June, 2019

Please see Blackboard upgrade programme (link also in left menu) for more information about this upgrade.

Examination dates are available from Academic Services at http://www.ulster.ac.uk/academicservices/student/timetable.html and we will always apply updates after the final examination in that session.
