We are ideally looking for a student who has experience relating to food and nutrition, health and wellbeing, child development and/or Health and Social Care. Essential skills include: - Good time management - Sound sense of initiative - High level of written communication skills - Sound ICT skills - Independent research skills - A confident and approachable nature
Upon completion of this project our Home Economics students stand to benefit in terms of raised awareness of allergens in practical recipes. This will support curriculum delivery for Key Stage 3 Home Economics, Level 2 Occupational Studies and GCSE Food and Nutrition. Significantly, our students with food allergies will benefit from the health and safety approach afforded by the accurate labelling of practical recipes and will be protected to a greater extent from the risk of anaphylactic shock or food intolerance symptoms.
Student tutors will be able to extend their own knowledge and understanding of allergens in food. Students will develop their skills in relation to independent research, information gathering, written communication and presentation skills. Students will gain confidence in interacting with Key Stage 4 and 5 students. They will also be able to gain understanding of the running of a busy Home Economics Department and will gain insight in to lesson planning and delivery, differentiation, assessment procedures, data tracking and intervention - all of which may be of use for Student tutors wishing to pursue a career in teaching.
We would be extremely keen to have more than one student placed within our busy Department. We currently deliver a wide range of subjects at Key Stage 3-Key Stage 5 and so this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a multi-disciplinary Department. The Tutoring in Schools Programme places Ulster University students in targeted primary, secondary or special needs schools. Participation from Regional Colleges is also welcome.
It provides schools with a student to work alongside teachers on any school-based project you propose.
