Digital Learning Support - Semester Two 2018/19

For the new semester, the Office for Digital Learning is offering digital learning support for staff across all campuses.

Tailored support sessions

Half hour tailored support slots are available to provide advice and support for your digital learning queries. Please provide an outline of your requirements and book at least one day before the date of the session.

Designing Flipped Learning workshop

Wednesday 30 January, 1pm – 3pm, Jordanstown, Room 17C25 

An activity based workshop to plan flipped learning, with online pre-workshop activities to prepare for this. Participants will sequence the design for flipped and blended learning, to enhance their educational practice, either individually or as a group.  There will be the opportunity to discuss and share practice, overcome challenges and find out about technologies that support flipped learning at Ulster, including the new Panopto video platform.

Educational technology webinars

Panopto, Thursday 24 January, 2pm - 2.30pm, Online via >a href="">

To introduce staff to Ulster’s new integrated video solution for education. Panopto supports video management, recording, live streaming, in-video searching, automated transcription, quizzing, analytics and mobile responsive video delivery.  The webinar will share some case studies from the Semester One pilot, including student generated video content for vlogging and video assessment. Qwickly, Wednesday 30 January, 3.30pm - 4pm, Online

Student attendance can be an indicator of success. Qwickly attendance monitoring, available in Blackboard, allows staff to record attendance for the whole cohort, or for students to check in, using a web browser on their own device with a time limited PIN number.

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, Wednesday 6 February, 2pm -2.30pm, Online

Showcase of features and possible uses of Collaborate Ultra, Ulster’s virtual classroom tool. The tool provides real-time communication using audio, video, interactive whiteboard, screen and application sharing and interactive polling. It could be used for a range of educational purposes, e.g. online lectures, guest speakers, tutorials, group work, etc. Sessions can be recorded and shared.

Turnitin Feedback Studio, Wednesday 6 February, 3pm - 3.30pm, Online

Turnitin Feedback Studio provides online submission, marking, feedback (reusable comments, audio, rubric, written) and a similarity report. This session provides an overview of the system and how it can be used to enhance assessment and feedback practice.

Blackboard Predict, Wednesday 13 February, 2pm - 2.30pm, Online

Predictive learning analytics can help identify at risk students, enabling better informed interventions that can help struggling students. This session provides an overview of Blackboard Predict and how it can be used it to enhance educational practice.

Blackboard Tests, Wednesday 20 February, 2pm - 2.30pm, Online

You can use tests and surveys to measure student knowledge, gauge progress, and gather information from students. This session provides an overview of Blackboard Tests and how to set them up.
